Pollença or Puerto Pollensa: Where Should You Stay?

Old-town evenings or beach days? Compare Pollença and Puerto Pollensa, then choose a villa around your family's routines, transport plans and priorities.

Pollença or Puerto Pollensa: Where Should You Stay?

Choose Pollença for an old-town setting, cafés around the square and evenings centred on the village. Choose Puerto Pollensa when the beach and waterfront are the main reason for your trip. For a villa holiday, check the individual address: neither a Pollença nor a Puerto Pollensa label guarantees walking access.

Pollença (also written Pollensa) is the inland town; Port de Pollença, commonly called Puerto Pollensa in English, is the coastal town on the bay. Both belong to the same municipality. You can enjoy both during one holiday, but choosing where to sleep determines which outings are easy and which need transport.

Pollença or Puerto Pollensa: the practical comparison

Your priority Start with Pollença Start with Puerto Pollensa
The setting Historic streets, squares and the surrounding countryside. The bay, sandy beaches and seafront promenades.
An evening out A meal in the old town; check the journey back to your villa. Dinner near the waterfront; check how far the house is from your chosen restaurants.
Beach days Plan transport from an inland base. Choose a house with a verified walking route if daily beach access matters.
A car-free stay An option to explore near the town, subject to the actual route and your plans. An option to explore near the beach and shops, subject to the actual route and your plans.
Space and privacy Compare individual countryside properties. Compare individual residential properties; a coastal address alone says little about privacy.

Choose Pollença if village life shapes your holiday

If your ideal evening begins with a stroll through old streets and ends over dinner near Plaça Major, start your search around Pollença. The attraction is having a town to return to after a day exploring, rather than organising every day around the water.

There are two distinct ways to stay here: close to the old town, or in the surrounding countryside. A finca outside town may suit a group that wants outdoor space and time together at the house. It can also mean arranging transport for dinner, shopping and the beach. Do not treat “near Pollença” as a promise that you can walk everywhere.

Choose Puerto Pollensa if you want the sea in your daily routine

If a morning on the sand and a later walk beside the bay are central to your holiday, begin with Puerto Pollensa. The waterfront gives the stay a different focus from the inland town. The Pine Walk and the beaches along the bay are reasons to spend time here even if you stay elsewhere.

The key distinction is between staying in the coastal area and staying within an easy walk of the beach. A villa can have a Puerto Pollensa address yet require a journey to the waterfront. Ask about the route from the gate, not just the distance on a map.

Which is better for families?

Start with the day your family actually wants. If children will ask to return to the beach after lunch, a verified coastal walking route may matter more than a larger garden. If most afternoons will be spent at the house, bedroom arrangements, shade and outdoor space may carry more weight than the town name.

Before choosing, confirm pool access and any fencing, steps between bedrooms and living areas, and the availability of cots or other equipment. A private pool should never be assumed to have a child barrier. For a pushchair or limited mobility, ask about surfaces, slopes and road crossings along the routes you expect to use.

Use our family villa collection as a starting point, then share the children’s ages and your daily priorities with the team.

Do you need a car in either location?

Decide from the property and itinerary together. Walking to one restaurant is different from having groceries, several places to eat and the beach within a manageable route. A countryside holiday with regular trips will usually require more transport planning than a stay close to the places you intend to use every day.

Before booking, ask for the route to your three most important destinations and discuss airport transfers and any planned outings. Check transport availability for your dates; do not build a car-free holiday around an unconfirmed service.

A simple way to choose your villa

  1. Name your non-negotiable: beach on foot, dinner in town, outdoor space or a particular bedroom layout.
  2. Choose the area that supports it: inland Pollença or coastal Puerto Pollensa.
  3. Check the house: routes, steps, pool arrangements and facilities.
  4. Plan the exceptions: the beach day, winery visit or evening out that needs transport.

Send Pollensina your dates, group size and whether you plan to hire a car. We can help compare suitable homes against those priorities. Browse the collections above or contact our team to begin.

No. Pollença is the inland town; Port de Pollença, often called Puerto Pollensa, is the coastal town. They are in the same municipality.

Does Pollença old town have a beach?

No. The old town is inland. Plan a separate journey to the coast, or choose a property with verified beach access if walking to the sea is a priority.

Which is better for a villa holiday without a car?

Neither area guarantees it. Choose a house with suitable routes to the services you need and confirm transport for the rest of your itinerary.

Yes. Choose your base around your everyday plans, then arrange transport for visits to the other town.
