Meet the Owners

Behind Pollensina are Iris Grünewald and Antonio Fuster, who have spent more than two decades working with some of Mallorca’s most distinctive homes and locations. We sat down with them to talk about the philosophy behind the collection, the island they call home, and the story of Villa Antigua.

What is Pollensina, in your own words?

Pollensina was created from a simple idea: to offer exceptional homes in Mallorca that feel personal, beautifully designed and genuinely connected to the island. It’s a very personal selection of homes that we know, understand and believe in — not just a catalogue of properties.

What does luxury mean to you?

For us, luxury is not simply about size or location. It’s about how a house feels from the moment you arrive: the proportions of a room, the materials under your feet, the quality of the bed, the light at breakfast, a kitchen you actually want to cook in, a terrace where everyone naturally gathers at the end of the day. These are the details that turn a property into a home.

Some Pollensina houses have been selected for their character, history or setting. Others we’ve conceived and developed ourselves from the beginning — which brings us to our newest projects.

Tell us about Agata and Coral, your latest projects.

Agata and Coral represent a new direction for Pollensina: contemporary Mediterranean retreats that combine the simplicity and warmth of Mallorcan architecture with the comfort and technology of today’s finest private homes. Natural textures — stone, wood, soft Mediterranean colours — sit alongside considered lighting, bespoke joinery and high-end furniture. The kitchens feature Bulthaup, and both homes include private gyms and hotel-level amenities, without losing the privacy of a villa. The result is luxury that feels understated rather than showy — sophisticated, comfortable, unmistakably Mediterranean.

Why does it matter that a Pollensina home feels like Mallorca?

We’re not interested in houses that could be anywhere in the world. A Pollensina home should feel connected to the island — traditional Mallorcan stone, handmade ceramics, linen, natural oak, or simply a view of the Tramuntana, the sea or an old olive tree framed in exactly the right way. It’s this balance between Mallorcan character and contemporary luxury that defines the Pollensina aesthetic.

How involved are you personally with each property?

Very. Pollensina stays a curated collection on purpose, so we can remain closely involved — we know the houses, their owners, their surroundings and the small details that make each one different. And the relationship doesn’t stop once a booking is made: our team is here before and throughout your stay, from choosing the right house to restaurant recommendations, private chefs, boats, wine tastings and the countless small requests that make a holiday feel effortless.

Let’s talk about Villa Antigua. What do you love most about its location?

Its setting in the Valley of Ternelles, among orange and lemon groves — one of the most fertile areas of northern Mallorca, often cooled by a gentle sea breeze in summer. It’s ten minutes from Puerto Pollensa and the coves of Cala San Vicente, and walking distance from the Old Town of Pollensa, a treasure trove for food lovers with some of the best restaurants in the area.

What’s the story behind choosing this location for Antigua — is there a personal connection?

Pollensa is where we feel most at home, and where we work. When the chance came up to buy this old farmhouse in Ternelles, we couldn’t resist. It was Can Mas 1882, the former manor house that gave its name to the whole “Can Mas” neighbourhood — we added “Antigua” (Spanish for “old” or “antique”) to tell it apart from other properties sharing the name. Today, Antigua Can Mas is a place where the past meets the future in harmony.

What can guests do just outside the villa?

Plenty, whatever the age of your group. A lazy day at one of the beaches near Cala San Vicente, such as Cala Molins; exploring the Old Town of Pollensa and its 365 Calvario steps; hiking through the rugged beauty of the Puig de Maria; or a boat trip along the coast to explore the coastline from the sea and paddle through hidden caves.

What do you hope guests feel when they stay in a Pollensina home?

Pollensina is ultimately our way of sharing the Mallorca we love: beautiful homes, extraordinary landscapes, good food, long lunches, hidden beaches and places that are often discovered only after living here for many years. We hope every Pollensina home gives you the feeling that, for a little while, Mallorca is yours too.
